Hanging by a Catch

Catches win matches! That's the type of attitude and determination that any captain would like to see from each of his players. Unfortunately, LCRC's pitiful catching display lost them the match in Game 3 and if it continues on into Game 4, they are more likely to lose the series. LVCC held on to every catching opportunity presented to them in game 3. Anupam, the star outfielder of game 3, showed the opponents how to take catches at various skill levels and how to run from a far-off distance and still manage to take a catch.

Most would argue that if a player keeps an eye on the ball while looking at the trajectory, then the player is more likely to catch the ball regardless of the height. The bias behind that argument is that not all players are comfortable in catching a cricket ball travelling for some distance in the air. As a matter of fact, most inexperienced fielders would give a half-hearted attempt to a catch opportunity and let go toward the end. Most would react soon after dropping the catch by either shrugging the hand as if they got stung by a miniscule bee, holding their fingers and hiding them between their arm pits, or shaking their head as if the catch was difficult.

Catching a cricket ball is a multi-step process which requires patience and concentration. Lacking the two will result in the ball turing into a burning inferno that will run right through you. Unfortunately, this inferno struck right through the LCRC fielding camp as the breakfast menu listed "Drop Catches" for the morning session.

There is no doubt that LVCC is one of the best teams in Southern Nevada. They have raw talent which can match teams of any domestic caliber. Game 4 will probably be the most anticipated match for the summer season as LCRC will be trying their best to save face from another ugly defeat.

Steps to successfully catch a ball

Step #1: Be confident that you can actually catch the ball
Step #2: Know how to place yourself under the ball
Step #3: Look at the trajectory of the ball
Step #4: Keep an eye on the ball and practice patience
Step #5: Don't lose sight while running or walking toward the ball
Step #6: Keep your hands together and close to your chest while catching
