Month in Review - In Search of a Wining Combination
The Vegas valley has witnessed a build-up of some intense rivalries between clubs over the summer. However, the shock of this year’s winter league is the winless streak of UNLV Cricket Club. For the past few years, UNLV CC has had a winning tradition where they dominated every tournament held in the valley. This year however, they have failed to produce a single win in the league and are looking to get eliminated to their rivals – LCRC. UNLV’s first game against the Xpress was an embarrassment as their batting collapsed to some formidable bowling by the Xpress. However, their second game against LCRC was intense as they fell short of 4-runs despite a strong line-up. Their weakness so far has been their inconsistency in bowling the correct length and a slew of extras bowled in both their matches. Fielding has been below par as well as they dropped many opportunities in the outfield.
Their next match-up against the Xpress will be their moment of truth as they will be looking forward to register their first win. The Xpress on the other hand will be looking to continue their winning streak as they will be playing their 5th game of the league before they gear up for the Ten-10 tournament. UNLV will have to learn quickly from their mistakes and may want to observe next week’s match-up against LVCC and LCRC.
The key players for UNLV will be their captain, Vamsi, who is a great all rounder and leader for his club along with Bala, who can single handedly win a match for any team. Ragha, another hidden talent, will be looking to dominate the bowling end for his club, where Avinash needs to stay focus and produce a good all-round performance. UNLV CC is lacking a specialist wicket-keeper and that alone might hurt the team. UNLV Cricket Club needs to re-group and focus in finding a winning combination to beat their rivals and league leader as the countdown to the final is a moment away.
