Under the Vegas Sun - May 12th, 2006

The Vegas summer is approaching and the Xpress are on a roll with a 3-0 winning streak. After having a miserable winter league (W = 2, L = 4), the team had to go through some major face lifts as the team voted in for a new captain, vice captain, treasurer and team manager. This major undertaking was overdue as the club saw some ups and down in player performances and fitness. Last year, the team lost a few key players due to injury and other committments leading to a lapse in organization. LVCC is filled with players of raw talent, but to harness talent, great management and leadership is required.

As part of the club's strategic plan, an Oversight Committee (OSC) has been formed. The major function of the committee is to act as a selection committee and oversee club functionality. Members of the OSC include the captain, vice-captain and three members of the club. Since the face lift, there has been a noticeable change in player morale leading to an excellent start of the summer season. With Game 2 of the 5-match Rivalry series approaching this Sunday (see schedule), the players are upbeat and are looking forward to gain an advantage by winning the second game, and to keep a flawless record of 4-0.

Noteable players in form for game 2:

Auranzeb Ahmed - his bowling covered for his lack in batting in game 1
Anupam Singhal - excellent batting and bowling helped to secure a first match win
Jahangir Jadoon - excellent half-century
Ankit Patel - great supporting role in securing a formidable total
Avi Mishra - for showing tactful leadership on the field)
Adnan Khawaja - safe pair of hands behind the wicket
Dabir Haider - his 1st ball wicket in game 1 is just a highlight of the type of bowling support he can provide in the team

Players seeking form:

Sunny Verma - an unfortunate outside edge ended his innings early in game 1; however, no one should take his batting lightly as he has one of the best leg-side sweep shots in the Valley.
Nasir Siddiqui - an unfortunate run out led to an early end to his inning; however, he is a great all-rounder and is a step away to spin his way back.
Lenin Chaturvedi - a well-round player who is ready to add some runs in his portfolio. Game 1 proved to be unfortunate for Lenin as most of the key players tumbled earlier in the innings.
Arvin Verma
- an emerging young talent is an excellent outfielder is ready to post some runs on the board. He is without a doubt one of the best fielders on the LVCC team.
