Match Report: 7-Match Series Game 1 - July 9th, 2006
LVCC Demoralize LCRC to Go One-Up in the 7-Match Series
Result: LVCC win by 189 runs (Aurangzeb career best 154 not out; Dabir career 5-wicket haul); Scorecard
Sunday, July 9th 2006:
LCRC got demoralized by their counterparts as they could not respond to the awesome bowling attack by Dabir and close to perfect batting by Aurangzeb. The end result was LVCC winning the game by 189 runs and going one-up in the 7-match series.
Dabir and Aurangzeb both put on a one-man show in game 1 as LCRC were under a lot of pressure after losing to their rivals in the 5-match rivalry series. Lenin, the stand-in captain for Avi, won the toss and immediately put his team to bat. Opening duo, Nasir and Lenin put on a great show as they raced away to a great start. Both players found great form in their batting, but failed to post a huge total in their spell. Lenin had a picture perfect six toward long-off as he stood still with his great batting stance. Both got out off the in-form but expensive bowling of Majid.
LCRC looked to gain control of the match after getting the openers out in quick succession. Little did they know that Aurangzeb, who was troubled with his batting in the 5-match rivalry series, would steal their ambitions to dominate game one. Aurangzeb, showed a near perfect batting form as he smashed the ball around the park. He remained not for 154 run and smashed six four (6x4) and thirteen sixes (13x6). His teammates: Ankit (11), Avi (18) and Adnan (4), showed great support as they rotated the strike to the in-form batsman. Avi and Adnan upped the run-rate by showing good speed between the wickets as they created a good amount of panic in the LCRC camp.
With an ask rate of 8.73 runs an over, LCRC did not have enough fire power in their batting camp to excel to a fiery run rate. Excellent opening spells by Jahangir and Aurangzeb limited LCRC’s scoring opportunities by taking quick wickets. Lenin showed his leadership skills on the field by implementing a near perfect rotation by varying his pace and spin attacks. In the end, the combination of Dabir and Ankit proved to be priceless as both dominated the bowling department by taking wickets in quick succession. Dabir, the star bowler of the game, took a career best 5-wicket haul and gave away seven runs. His first over included a hat-trick ball which was defended away by the incoming batsman. Aurangzeb cleaned up in the end by the taking the final wicket of the match and ended up being economical while taking a couple of wickets.
The LCRC looked frail in all aspects of the game. They will be looking forward to put together a stronger team to give themselves some hope to win a few games in the series. LVCC, on the other hand, have a strong line-up and will be looking to dominate game 2 and eventually win to lead the series 2-0.
