Lenin and Ankit Dominate as LVCC win their League Opener
Result: LVCC win by 53 runs :: Scorecard

Sunday, September 10th 2006:

LVCC continued their tradition of dominance by beating LCRC. With the win, the Xpress move on to a 3-game winning streak continuing from the recently completed 7-match series.

LVCC won the toss and decided to bat first in a slightly cool morning. Captain (Avi) and Vice Captain (Lenin) gave the Xpress a head start as they dominated the first half. The two put on a 73-run partnership. Avi was the first to fall on an unlucky inside edge played on to his stumps. Lenin stood strong but fell short of his second half-century of the summer.

The Xpress middle-order failed miserably as they fell victim to some tight bowling by LCRC. Their counterparts gave away only 18 extras for the inning. Sunny, who was struggling all summer long with the bat, showed hints of good form as he accelerated to 19 runs of 17 balls. Sunny's short stint gave the Xpress a fighting chance as runs accumulated late in the innings. LCRC's Sanjeeva and Shanta were the two bowlers who troubled most of the Xpress batsmen.

Chasing a modest target, LCRC found themselves in heaps of trouble as Anupam and Aurangzeb (The dynamic A's) dominated in their first bowling spells. The duo managed to take a wicket each. LCRC were already on the back foot by the 7th over and that's when Jehangir and Avi displayed some fine seam bowling. Avi showed hints of reverse swing and Jehangir displayed good control with accurate fast bowling. Jehangir managed to pick up two wickets and also bowled a maiden over in the process.

Ankit, who dominated the recently held 7-match series by taking the most wickets, continued his streak by picking five scalps. His vicious armers gave the batsmen little time to adjust; and the 5-wicket haul helped seal a convincing victory against LCRC.

A few notable mentions for the game go to the leadership of Avi and Lenin, who time and time again have lead their team to superb victories. The win has definitely boosted the confidence of the Xpress camp and they would hope to win their second match again UNLV CC.
